Wigan Athletic owner Dave Whelan under fire for reported anti-Semitic comments

Wigan Athletic owner Dave Whelan comes under criticism for alleged anti-Semitic comments he made to a newspaper on Thursday.

Wigan Athletic owner Dave Whelan has been accused of anti-Semitism over comments that he allegedly made to a national newspaper, which reportedly claimed that Jews "chase money more than everybody else".

The Latics have come under criticism in recent days after hiring former Cardiff City boss Malky Mackay to manage the 2013 FA Cup winners, with the Football Association looking into allegations that the 42-year-old sent offensive text messages while at the helm of the Welsh club.

In an interview with The Guardian, Whelan reportedly said: "The Jews don't like losing money. Nobody likes losing money.

"I think Jewish people do chase money more than everybody else. I don't think that's offensive at all. It's telling the truth. Jewish people love money, English people love money, we all love money."

Kitchen firm Premier Range ended its agreement with the club over the appointment of Mackay as manager on Thursday.
