Wigan Athletic chairman Dave Whelan issues Uwe Rosler backing

Wigan Athletic chairman Dave Whelan insists that Uwe Rosler is the right man to manage the club, despite their poor start to the Championship season.

Wigan Athletic chairman Dave Whelan has insisted that Uwe Rosler is the right man to manage the club.

The former Brentford boss has come under fire following a run of just one win in the last 12 games, which has seen the Latics drop into the Championship relegation zone.

Whelan believes that Rosler will turn the club's fortunes around.

"There is nothing wrong with the manager," Whelan told the Wigan Evening Post. "A good manager doesn't become a bad manager overnight, and Uwe Rosler is a good manager.

"There is no question over his ability. He's solid. He's just not getting enough from the players at the moment.

"I spoke with Uwe on Friday and I told him I was 100 per cent behind him. He needs support from everyone, and he will get it."

Rosler led Wigan to the Championship playoff semi-finals last season, where they lost to Queens Park Rangers.
