Roberto Martinez praises "gifted" Shaun Maloney

Wigan Athletic manager Roberto Martinez has described Shaun Maloney as "one of the most gifted players" in the Premier League.

The Scotland international played an integral part in the Latics' 3-0 triumph at Aston Villa on Sunday - a result that saw the club move one point clear of the relegation zone.

"Shaun Maloney is one of the most gifted players you can see in this league," Martinez told reporters. "He has a good eye for a pass but other than that he has moved to a different level.

"I hope he gets a lot of recognition as he deserves all the credit. Maloney is a fine professional and a massive asset to Wigan."

League leaders Manchester United make the short trip to Wigan on Tuesday.
