Martinez looking for January reinforcements

Wigan Athletic manager Roberto Martinez has acknowledged that he will have to strengthen his squad during the January transfer window following his side's 3-1 loss to Queens Park Rangers.

The Latics are currently bottom of the table and three points from safety having amassed just two points from their past six games, and Martinez doesn't believe that his current squad will be able to cope if they are hit by injuries.

"Today it was a clear sign we couldn't cope with the two injuries we had Alcaraz and Crusat," admitted Martinez.

"It is quite clear we need to help the players with a couple of fresh players. It is more important than the positions the characters we get and they come in and give us a real help.

"Every point is going to be huge and every small margin is going to be important."

Martinez has been in charge of Wigan for two-and-a-half years, joining the club from Swansea City in 2009.
