Moyes: 'West Ham have not considered short-term deal for Lingard'

David Moyes has revealed that West Ham United have "not even considered" offering Jesse Lingard a short-term deal to re-join the club.

The 30-year-old is currently training with the Hammers after being released by Nottingham Forest at the end of June.

Lingard enjoyed a successful six-month loan spell with West Ham in 2021, scoring nine goals and providing five assists in 16 Premier League appearances to help Moyes's side finish sixth and qualify for the Europa League.

The midfielder eventually left Manchester United upon the expiration of his contract last summer and rejected the chance to re-join West Ham in favour of penning a one-year deal with Nottingham Forest.

However, Lingard failed to score or provide an assist in 17 Premier League games for Steve Cooper's side last season and he fell down the pecking order during the second half of the campaign, playing for just 60 minutes across three appearances between January and May.

Lingard is now building up his fitness in training with West Ham and is "considering all options" this summer, including a potential move to Saudi Arabia.

Moyes has confirmed that Lingard will continue training with the Hammers next week but he has played down suggestions that he could soon be offered a contract by the club.

Speaking at a press conference on Friday ahead of Sunday's Premier League game against Chelsea, Moyes said: "We've not even considered a deal at the moment.

"He's in training to see if we can get him back fit and get him in decent condition. He'll be back here next week as well. There's no news on that as far as short-term deals or anything else.

"Jesse's a good player, probably needing to get himself in the correct condition. We're working on him, all players tend to need four or five weeks pre-season and Jesse's no different from anybody else."

West Ham have already made two midfield signings so far this summer, recruiting Edson Alvarez and James Ward-Prowse from Ajax and Southampton respectively.

Moyes has confirmed that both players are available to make their debuts for the Hammers against Chelsea, adding: "I'm not too sure we've got anyone unavailable. I think everybody is available. Both James Ward-Prowse and Edson Alvarez are available for Sunday.

"James has Premier League experience and has scored and assisted goals throughout his career. If he does that for us then he will add value to what we've already got.

"We hope Edson will bring us something as well. We're enjoying working with him and I hope both will be really positive signings for us."

However, it remains to be seen whether Lucas Paqueta will feature as the Manchester City target is reportedly being investigated by FIFA and the FA over alleged betting breaches.
