West Ham United to appear before FA tribunal to challenge Andy Carroll dismissal

West Ham to appear before FA tribunal

West Ham United have confirmed that they will appear before an FA arbitral tribunal today to challenge the red card issued to striker Andy Carroll.

The English governing body rejected the Hammers' appeal against Carroll's sending-off, which was issued by Howard Webb during West Ham's 2-0 win over Swansea City.

The 25-year-old appeared to strike his arm across the top of Swansea defender Chico Flores's head during the clash last Saturday.

West Ham released a statement on the club's official website saying: "The club is concerned that the Regulatory Commission did not apply the correct test under the rule, and denied the club procedural fairness.

"West Ham's complaint is made under the FA rules, and the club shall accept and abide by the decision of the FA Arbitral Tribunal. The club has no intention of taking the issue to the courts, but simply seeks a fair determination of its rights under the FA's rules."

As it stands, Carroll will serve a three-match ban.
