West Ham United announce Olympic Stadium capacity increase

West Ham increase the matchday capacity at the former Olympic Stadium to 60,000 in response to spectator demand.

West Ham United have announced that the capacity of their new home, the Olympic Stadium, will be increased to 60,000 for the start of next season.

The Hammers are leaving the Boleyn Ground this summer to move to the Stratford arena that was built for the 2012 Games in London.

Plans were originally made for a 54,000 capacity, but the Premier League side are to add 6,000 more seats after encouraging ticket sales.

"Today's announcement is further evidence of the upward trajectory of this club," vice-chairman Karren Brady told the club website.

"We are on course for what could be our most successful Premier League performance ever and our ambitions to finish in the top six and break into Europe are very much within reach."

With eight games of the season to go, West Ham are fifth in the table, one point behind the top four, and still in the FA Cup.
