Tomkins: 'Hammers aren't chasing Barca yet'

James Tomkins has insisted that nobody at West Ham United is getting carried away with the club's lofty league position amid suggestions that European football is up for grabs.

Tomkins netted the winner in Tuesday's 2-1 victory at West Bromwich Albion in a result that saw Sam Allardyce's side stay fifth in the Premier League table, one point off fourth.

The travelling Hammers sang "Barcelona, we're coming for you" at The Hawthorns, but the defender acknowledges that it was merely banter and says that his teammates are remaining grounded.

"That shows their sense of humour," he told The Mirror. "I don't think they will get carried away and I know the players are certainly not singing it!

"It's just a bit of banter and we won't be getting carried away. We're in a good position, but we'll be trying to get more points on the board.

"The fans are saying we're going to be top of the league, but we're just enjoying how we're playing and we're getting a few players back, which makes the team even stronger."

Allardyce's men host Swansea City at Upton Park on Sunday.
