Winston Reid bemoans "cruel" defeat for West Ham United

West Ham defender Winston Reid believes that it was "cruel" for his team to lose to Tottenham Hotspur in their Premier League opener on the weekend.

West Ham United defender Winston Reid has claimed that it was "cruel" for his team to lose their Premier League opener to Tottenham Hotspur.

The Hammers created numerous chances at Upton Park on Saturday, but it was Spurs who came away with the points thanks to a late 1-0 win.

Reid now hopes that he and his teammates can learn their lessons from the match and start converting their opportunities in front of goal.

"It was cruel," he told the club's official website. "That's football - we try and do our best, but unfortunately they've scored a goal at the end and that's it.

"The main lesson is to make sure we make the most of when we're on top. It was a disappointing game, it wouldn't go in and that's it."

West Ham play their next game this Saturday when they travel to Crystal Palace in the Premier League.
