Winston Reid has said that his decision to sign a contract extension at West Ham United is linked to the firm belief that a bright future awaits the Hammers.
The New Zealand international signed a six-and-a-half year deal last month to quell speculation over his future, with a summer switch to Arsenal heavily touted.
"I think this club will eventually be a very big one, but it's going to take time and probably not over the next couple of years," Reid told the Daily Mail.
"It is going to take a lot of hard work by everybody, but I wouldn't have signed a new contract if I didn't think we could achieve something to get into the top tier of English football.
"We just have to work hard at it and make sure the results get better."
Reid, 26, joined the Irons from Danish side Midtjylland in August 2010.
