West Ham United's Andy Carroll feels "mixed emotions" over beating Newcastle

Carroll feels "mixed emotions" over win

West Ham United striker Andy Carroll has admitted that he feels "mixed emotions" about being on the winning side against his former club Newcastle United.

The 25-year-old, who began his career on Tyneside, started for the Hammers in Saturday's slender 1-0 win over the 10-man Magpies.

Sam Allardyce's side ended Newcastle's six-game unbeaten run, but Carroll has admitted that he still holds a fondness for the North-East outfit.

"Newcastle have had a great season and have been playing well, and they had been undefeated in a few games, so it is even better to beat them," The Chronicle quotes Carroll as saying.

"They are my old team so I have mixed emotions really, with my family, who I have just been in the box with, but we've got the three points so we're happy."

Carroll only recently returned to action after suffering an injury in pre-season.
