Slaven Bilic slams "unacceptable" Victor Wanyama tackle

Bilic slams "unacceptable" Wanyama tackle

West Ham United manager Slaven Bilic has claimed that Southampton's Victor Wanyama deserved his red card during their Premier League meeting at St Mary's this evening.

Wanyama was shown his third red card of the season for a challenge on Dimitri Payet in the second half, although Southampton held on for a 1-0 win despite their numerical disadvantage.

Bilic believes that Mark Clattenburg made the right decision in giving the Kenyan his marching orders, but also admitted that his side did not do enough to take advantage of their extra man.

"It's a red card. When the second leg comes around it is dangerous. I don't mind sliding in. It was a big part of my game when I played. But for me as soon as the second leg comes round - scissors - it is unacceptable," Bilic told reporters.

"Against 10 men we dominated but we didn't create enough and didn't test their keeper well enough. Our final ball, shot or cross was simply not good enough. This was a great opportunity for us and we shouldn't have wasted it."

The defeat means that West Ham have won just one of their last five games in all competitions.
