Jonas Olsson: 'Saido Berahino will only improve'

West Bromwich Albion defender Jonas Olsson insists that Saido Berahino will improve and mature as he gets used to life in the Premier League.

West Bromwich Albion defender Jonas Olsson has expressed his belief that Saido Berahino will only get better as he matures as a player.

The 20-year-old is the Baggies' top scorer with nine goals in all competitions and has put in some impressive displays in his first full season in the top flight.

However, he was also involved in a dressing-room spat with teammate James Morrison as well as another off-the-field incident in an eventful campaign for the young striker.

Olsson told reporters: "It is normal to have ups and downs at that age, but I think he has a really bright future. This is his first season of being with the first team and he is the top scorer, so that is some achievement.

"Like any young player he needs guidance, but I think he is very good. The problems in the dressing room that happened after the Cardiff game, well we were naive as a team that day. We had four or five players too far forward.

"The most important thing as a pro is to realise when you've made a mistake and learn. When you are 20 you make lots of mistakes. He is improving every week."

West Brom are now all but safe from relegation following Norwich City's draw with Chelsea on Sunday.
