Roberto Martinez tips Pepe Mel for success

Martinez tips Mel for success

Everton boss Roberto Martinez has tipped fellow Spaniard Pepe Mel to prove a successful appointment at West Bromwich Albion.

The 50-year-old was named as Steve Clarke's successor at the Tawthorns last week and is poised to face Martinez in his first game in charge when the Toffees travel to the West Midlands on Monday.

Mel has previously enjoyed long-term spells with Real Betis and Rayo Vallecano, and Martinez believes that his compatriot is well-equipped ahead of his Premier League career.

He told reporters: "Pepe Mel will surprise a lot of people. He has done a remarkable job wherever he has been.

"I expect it to be a good, open game. West Brom will be a team that will try to adapt to working under a new manager."

Monday's encounter is scheduled to kick off at 8pm.
