Irvine praises Lescott impact

West Bromwich Albion boss Alan Irvine has praised the impact that summer signing Joleon Lescott has had on the squad.

The 32-year-old defender joined the Baggies on a free transfer in June following his departure from Premier League champions Manchester City.

West Brom earned a third consecutive win of the season on Sunday with a 4-0 victory over Burnley, and Irvine believes that Lescott has played a key role in the team's recent improvement.

"His positional sense is very, very good and, as we know, if centre-backs stand in the right positions, they cut out a lot of the danger before it even comes," the Scot told talkSPORT.

"He has come in and has been a great influence on people around him. He has been a very, very important player to us, but he has been part of a great team performance in both the Tottenham and Burnley games."

West Brom continue their Premier League campaign this Saturday when they face Liverpool at Anfield.
