Irvine "hurt" by criticism

West Bromwich Albion boss Alan Irvine has admitted that he is "hurt" by criticism from the club's fans.

The Baggies were booed by supporters during Saturday's 1-0 defeat at home to Arsenal - their third consecutive loss in the Premier League.

With West Brom just two points above the relegation zone, Irvine is hoping that fans will get behind the players in the coming weeks.

"It hurts. I'd be telling lies if I said it didn't hurt. It stings," the Scot is quoted as saying by Sky Sports News.

"Obviously I know it works both ways and we've got to give them things to cheer about. Hopefully in the good times we can do that, but in the difficult times we could do with our fans being exactly that - supporters; people there to try to help us."

West Brom have the chance to get back to winning ways on Tuesday when they entertain West Ham United in the league.
