Darren Fletcher: 'West Brom needed victory over Leicester City'

West Bromwich Albion captain Darren Fletcher admits that his side "desperately needed" their 2-1 victory over Leicester City at the King Power Stadium.

West Bromwich Albion captain Darren Fletcher has admitted that his side "desperately needed" their 2-1 victory over Leicester City this evening.

The Baggies began the match only out of the relegation zone on goal difference as a result of Hull City's victory over Southampton earlier in the day, but responded to beat the champions and end a five-match winless streak.

The win lifted Tony Pulis's side up to 11th in the Premier League table, and Fletcher talked up the importance of picking up all three points.

"We came here today with a real positive attitude and we got a great win. We did alright here last year and drew 2-2, so we thought we could replicate that," he told Sky Sports News.

"We needed it for ourselves, we desperately needed the three points for ourselves. We started the season well and should have picked up more points, the lads realised that.

"The fans were behind us today, this was one of those games that meant a lot. We get three points and pushed ourselves back up the league."

West Brom's win was only their third on the road in the Premier League over the past 12 months.
