Late Aaron Hunt goal secures win for Werder Bremen

A brace from Aaron Hunt, the second of which came four minutes from time, hands Werder Bremen a 2-1 win over Mainz.

An Aaron Hunt goal four minutes from time gave Werder Bremen a 2-1 win over Mainz 05 in their Bundesliga clash this afternoon.

The hosts took the lead after just 11 minutes as Nils Petersen set up Hunt, who made no mistake with his effort to make it 1-0.

Mainz almost responded just one minute later when Nicolai Muller smashed a shot goalwards, but the keeper was equal to it.

Eljero Elia came within inches of doubling his side's lead soon after, but his effort came back off the post.

Mainz got their equaliser in the 64th minute as Radoslav Zabavnik's cross was nodded home by Adam Szalai.

It was the home side who were to experience late joy, however, as Hunt grabbed his second of the game in the 84th minute to hand Bremen all three points.
