Troy Deeney banned for three matches by Football Association

Troy Deeney accepts a Football Association charge of violent conduct after his coming together with Joe Allen at the weekend and is banned for three league games.

Watford captain Troy Deeney has been banned for three matches after accepting a Football Association charge of violent conduct.

The 29-year-old has been punished for his clash with Stoke City midfielder Joe Allen during Saturday's meeting at Vicarage Road, when appearing to gouge his opponent's cheek.

Deeney escaped with a yellow card at the time but, after being reviewed by a three-man panel of former match officials, the Englishman was charged for his actions by the FA on Monday afternoon.

After deciding not to appeal against the decision, the former Walsall striker will now sit out games against Everton, West Ham United and Newcastle United, with his return to action not coming until November 25 when Manchester United travel to Hertfordshire.

Deeney, who played the full 90 minutes of the 1-0 defeat to Stoke, has one goal in eight Premier League appearances this season.

Both Watford and Stoke have also been charged with a failure to control their players after matters boiled over late on.
