Billy McKinlay replaces Oscar Garcia as Watford head coach

Watford appoint Billy McKinlay as head coach after Oscar Garcia steps down.

Watford have confirmed that Billy McKinlay has replaced Oscar Garcia as the club's head coach with immediate effect.

The Hornets have insisted that Garcia's health is "no longer of concern" following his recent spell in hospital.

The Spaniard, 41, was admitted to hospital earlier this month before being released one week later.

"I was closely involved with the appointment of Billy McKinlay, because I was aware that I may not be able to return," Garcia told the club's official website.

"I always wanted an experienced British coach within our setup, because it's important to have that mix of cultures and experience with this squad.

"I would like to thank Watford's fans for their kindness during my time here at the club. I will be hoping to see you all as a Premier League club next season."

Watford, who are currently in fourth place in the Championship table, are back in action on Tuesday when they host Brentford.
