Craig Cathcart: 'Watford devastated by late defeat to Manchester United'

Watford defender Craig Cathcart admits that his side's late defeat to Manchester United at Vicarage Road was "heartbreaking".

Watford defender Craig Cathcart has admitted that he and his teammates were devastated by the manner of their 2-1 defeat to Manchester United.

Memphis Depay put the Red Devils ahead in the first half, but Troy Deeney's penalty four minutes from time looked to have earned the Quique Flores's men a share of the spoils.

However, the Hornets skipper diverted Bastian Schweinsteiger's shot past Heurelho Gomes in the dying seconds of the match to hand United the three points.

"In the end it's really disappointing. First half we didn't play well at all, probably the worst half we've had all season," Cathcart told the club's official website.

"They pressed us high up the pitch and made it difficult to play, and we played into their hands a little bit. But we came out in the second-half and changed the game.

"We played a little bit more direct and made the game uncomfortable for them, and I think that showed. We created chances and got the goal back, but to lose like we did in the end is heartbreaking."

Watford are 13th in the Premier League following their defeat.
