Walsall sign former Charlton striker

Walsall manager Dean Smith believes that striker Jordan Cook will add a different dimension to his attack next season.

Cook has penned a two-year deal with Walsall after being released by Charlton Athletic at the end of the previous campaign, and Smith, who guided the Saddlers to 13th place last season, has revealed that he tried to sign the former Sunderland forward in 2012.

The 43-year-old told the club's official website: "Jordan is a player that I've had my eye on for a long time. I tried to get him two years ago but a Championship club like Charlton came in for him.

"He's a player who will score goals. He brings us something that we didn't have last season - he's quick, gets in behind and scores goals."

Cook made just five appearances for the Addicks in the final 12 months of his stay at The Valley.
