Chris Coleman: 'A lot must happen for Ched Evans to earn Wales recall'

Wales boss plays down Ched Evans recall

Wales manager Chris Coleman has claimed that "a lot needs to happen" if Ched Evans is to return to international football.

The 27-year-old, who has won 13 caps for the Dragons, was found not guilty of raping a 19-year-old woman in a hotel room after a retrial in October.

Evans was originally found guilty of rape in 2012 and served two-and-a-half years of a five-year prison sentence, but this conviction was quashed in April.

When asked about whether the Chesterfield striker would be considered for a Wales recall, Coleman told reporters: "From the football side of it, he has missed a lot of football.

"Since he has been away a lot has happened to [Wales]. There are a lot of players in front of him. From a football perspective, a lot needs to happen.

"If anyone is going to make an impact [with the Welsh team], they need to be at least playing at the highest level and doing the business at the highest level."

Evans's last appearance for Wales was in a 2-0 defeat by England in March 2011.
