Edwards: 'Difficult to make Wales squad'

Wolverhampton Wanderers midfielder Dave Edwards has conceded that it will be "difficult" for him to break into the Wales squad for this summer's European Championships.

The 29-year-old is currently sidelined after breaking his fifth metatarsal and is unlikely to be back in action before mid-April, just weeks before Chris Coleman makes his final squad selection for the tournament.

"It's definitely going to be difficult [to make the squad]," Edwards told the Express & Star. "I just hope, when there were a couple of injuries a few months ago and I stepped in, there was enough in my performances to show the manager that I'm worthy of getting picked.

"It's obviously a big blow that I'm not going to be involved in the upcoming friendlies because these sort of games are quite big for selection.

"As long as I am fit and in contention that is the most I can do at the moment."

Wales open up their Euros campaign against Slovakia in Bordeaux on June 11, ahead of a trip to Lens to face England in a crunch clash five days later.
