Jan Vertonghen: 'Wales came for draw'

Vertonghen: 'Wales came for draw'

Belgium defender Jan Vertonghen has claimed that Wales had no intention of winning Sunday's goalless draw between the sides in Euro 2016 qualifying.

The Welsh came away from Brussels with a share of the spoils last night to remain in second place in the Group B table, while the result has seen the Belgians slip down to fourth spot.

Despite his side's failure to beat Wales, Vertonghen is confident that Belgium still have what it takes to qualify for the tournament.

"Wales came for a draw and they got what they wanted," he told UEFA.com. "We didn't create too much because they had a strong back four and four in front of them. It was difficult to create chances.

"Two teams go straight through to the Euros so we have enough of a chance. There are at least three strong teams [in the group], and even Israel and Cyprus are looking good, so we just have to win our next couple of games."

Belgium are back in qualifying action in March 2015 when they host Cyprus.
