Rush: 'Portugal are weak defensively'

Wales legend Ian Rush has claimed that his nation's Euro 2016 semi-final opponents Portugal are 'weak defensively'.

Wales will attempt to reach the final of this year's European Championships when they take on Fernando Santos's Portugal team on Wednesday night.

The Dragons will enter the last-four tie as the underdogs, but Rush, who scored 28 times in 73 caps for Wales between 1980 and 1996, has backed his nation to succeed.

"Portugal's weakness is that the defence find it hard to keep a clean sheet and so they will let in goals," he told Goal.com. "We put a programme in seven years ago and now we are getting the rewards as it all starts from the grassroots. I am proud to be the Elite Performance Director of the Welsh FA Trust."

The second semi-final will be contested between hosts France and world champions Germany on Thursday night.
