The visitors took the lead in the 27th minute when Dries Mertens picked up the ball on the left hand side of the penalty area, before cutting in and curling a low strike into the bottom corner.

Higuain wasted an opportunity to double their lead soon after when he fired wide after receiving the ball in space on the edge of the area.

After the break, Luca Toni came close to scoring an equaliser, but saw his headed attempt saved by the keeper, before Goran Pandev fired over the bar for the visitors from inside the box.

Napoli extended their lead in the 72nd minute, as Lorenzo Insigne met Jose Callejon's cross to finish from close range.

They made the game safe four minutes later when Insigne saw his effort parried by the keeper and Blerim Dzemaili arrived to slot home the rebound.
