Chivas USA 0-1 Vancouver Whitecaps

Jay DeMerit scored the only goal as Vancouver Whitecaps defeated Chivas USA and won an away game for the first time in the club's history.

It was the hosts that dominated for most of the game at a rainy Home Depot Center, as Casey Townsend, Laurent Courtois and Ryan Smith all worked Joe Cannon in the Whitecaps' goal.

In the 68th minute, from a rare Vancouver corner, Whitecaps captain DeMerit headed Davide Chiumiento's fired cross beyond Dan Kennedy.

The goal was the first in the MLS for DeMerit, who appeared 183 times during six years at Watford.
