Diouf training with Preston

El Hadji Diouf has accepted an invitation to train with Preston North End, although manager Phil Brown has revealed that the club could not afford to sign him.

The former Senegal international has recently become a free agent after Blackburn Rovers cancelled his contract last week.

Brown and Diouf worked together under the management of Sam Allardyce at Bolton Wanderers and the pair have been reunited, though it is unlikely that 30-year-old will be turning out at Deepdale this season.

"Dioufy is a good friend of mine and he's keeping himself fit here," said Brown.

"If I could sign him, we'd be on to an absolute winner, but that's not the reason for us working together.

"It's a win-win situation as far as I see it. Dioufy is working to keep himself fit until he gets himself fixed up with a new club, and we're getting the benefit of having a very talented player training with us for a short while."

Diouf has also had spells with Liverpool, Sunderland and Glasgow Rangers.
