Torino put five past Cesena

Torino thrash Cesena 5-0 in their final match of the Serie A season, with Maxi Lopez netting a brace.

Torino have finished the Serie A season with an emphatic 5-0 win over Cesena at Stadio Olimpico this evening.

The home side were dominant from the start as Maxi Lopez won the ball inside the six-yard box, but could only blast the ball over the crossbar.

Torino had another chance just a couple of minutes later when Giuseppe Vives unleashed a powerful strike from the edge of the box, which Walter Bressan got a hand to, but could only parry it into the path of Joseph Martinez, leaving the winger with an easy header.

Lopez was able to put his earlier miss behind him shortly after to double the hosts' lead, blasting home the rebound after Martinez headed onto the crossbar.

Things got worse for Cesena before the break as the home side continued to dictate the play, resulting in Marco Benassi unleashing a rocket from 25 yards out with just over half an hour gone, extending their lead to three goals.

Torino increased their lead further less than five minutes into the second half as Vives picked out Emiliano Moretti with a cross, leaving his teammate to head in at the near post.

Lopez could have added his second of the match with just over an hour gone as he controlled a high ball forward before firing a low drive towards the Cesena goal, but Bresson made the save, while another Lopez strike three minutes later was just wide.

Lopez eventually did get his second of the match, finding himself in the right place at the right time to power the ball home on the rebound after a Bruno Peres effort was blocked.

Cesena already knew that they would be finishing the campaign in 19th, while Torino stay ninth as a result of Inter Milan's win.
