Leyton Orient vs. Swindon - prediction, team news, lineups

Two of League Two's promotion hopefuls will compete against each other on Tuesday when Swindon Town travel to The Breyer Group Stadium to face Leyton Orient.

Both teams will head into the fixture with plenty of confidence after progressing into the third round of the FA Cup at the weekend.

Match preview

Leyton Orient were dominant at the weekend when they knocked Tranmere Rovers out of the FA Cup with a 4-0 victory following a brace from Harry Smith a goal from Omar Beckles and a penalty by Aaron Drinan.

The result saw them bounce back in style after a trio of games without a win which is something they put right with a strong performance on Saturday.

Their most recent outing in League Two resulted in a 1-0 loss against Northampton Town and that defeat saw them slip out of the playoff positions.

Right now Kenny Jackett's team are outside of the top seven by just two points, which is something that could change with a positive result on Tuesday.

The O's have scored more and conceded fewer than their opponents, but even with that, they are trailing them by five points, which they will want to cut down.

Swindon Town are sitting just outside of the automatic promotion spot by goal difference and a win on Tuesday has the chance to put them as high as second place.

The Robins were also able to progress into the third round of the FA Cup at the weekend when they defeated Walsall 2-1 with goals from Tyreece Simpson and Kaine Hayden.

Ben Garner's squad have not lost in League Two since their October 23rd fixture with Bradford City with the confidence in the squad being clear to see.

Swindon have only been beaten once in their previous six matches, which is something that has helped them to push towards the top of the table.

After suffering relegation last season, the Robins are keen to return to League One at the first time of asking and another victory in midweek will help towards that goal.

Team News

Craig Clay returned to the Leyton Orient starting lineup on Saturday following his recent ankle problems and he will likely be involved again on Tuesday as he builds his match fitness back up.

However, Paul Smyth was still missing from the squad due to his hamstring problem, although he is expected to return at some point in the near future.

Smith and Drinan continue their excellent form this season with the two men now having scored 21 goals between them in all competitions, making them a serious threat heading into this game.

The visitors will likely set up with five at the back in order to provide as much defensive cover as possible against the strong attacking quality of the O's.

Academy star Levi Francis dropped out of the starting XI on Saturday and it is unlikely he will be brought back in here, but Ben Gladwin will likely be back in the team.

Leyton Orient possible starting lineup:

Vigouroux; Thompson, Beckles, Ogie; James, Clay, Kyprianou, Archibald, Kemp; Smith, Drinan

Swindon Town possible starting lineup:

Wollacott; Hayden, Hunt, Conroy, Odimaya, Landolo; Gladwin, Reed, Payne; Williams, Simpson

We say: Leyton Orient 2-2 Swindon Town

There is very little to separate these two teams at the moment in terms of form and how they have played throughout the entire season, which is reflected by their league positions.

The match is an important one for each club as they continue their respective bids for promotion, but this is one that could easily result in a draw.
