Ashley Williams: 'South Wales derby win was for Michael Laudrup'

Swansea City captain Ashley Williams dedicates Saturday's 3-0 win over South Wales rivals Cardiff City to the club's former manager Michael Laudrup.

Swansea City captain Ashley Williams has dedicated his side's 3-0 win over Cardiff City to his former manager Michael Laudrup.

The Dane was sacked on Tuesday and replaced by long-serving defender Garry Monk, who guided the Swans to victory over their South Wales rivals courtesy of goals from Wayne Routledge, Nathan Dyer and Wilfried Bony.

Laudrup's dismissal came after the Swans had won just once in 10 Premier League outings, but Williams believes that the players were to blame for that poor run of form.

Speaking after Saturday's derby victory, Williams told reporters: "We feel 100% responsible. You might look at the manager or look at his staff but at the end of the day you are on the pitch.

"There is a bit of a thank you in this performance - that is how I feel. Hopefully he was watching. It was not that we didn't perform for him and we performed for Monks - it is just that he did this as well.

"It is the same team he had and the players he brought in. This is for everyone involved."

Next up for Monk's Swansea is a trip to Stoke City on Wednesday night.
