Ross Barkley: 'My goal was a relief'

Everton match-winner Ross Barkley has revealed that his goal against Swansea City was a "relief" as he had missed an earlier chance before his 84th-minute strike.

The midfielder curled a free kick into the top corner to secure a 2-1 win for the Toffees after Dwight Tiendalli had cancelled out Seamus Coleman's opener.

"My goal was a relief because I had a good chance to score with 20 minutes gone but I slipped over," Barkley told BBC Sport.

"To see that free kick go in was a massive bonus. I don't practise free kicks but with Leighton Baines not on the pitch I thought it was my chance to have a go."

Barkley's winner sent Everton into the top four of the Premier League.
