Swansea City manager Garry Monk: 'Mistakes cost us against West Ham United'

Swansea City manager Garry Monk admits that his side failed to match their previous performance levels in their 3-2 defeat to West Ham United in the Premier League.

Garry Monk has conceded that Swansea City failed to match their previous performance levels in this afternoon's 3-1 defeat against West Ham United.

The Swans took a first-half lead at Upton Park courtesy of Wilfried Bony's close-range finish, before Andy Carroll's double turned the game in the home side's favour.

Diafra Sakho added a third late on to compound Monk's misery, around 20 minutes after goalkeeper Lukasz Fabianski had been shown his marching orders following a collision with the Senegal international.

"We were not at the level we have been," the 35-year-old told Sky Sports News. "We very much competed, it was close but we were not at the level we were and some of the mistakes have cost us.

"Funnily enough when we went down to 10 men we played or better football. When we play one touch football we can hurt teams and we showed that with our goal but we did not do that enough.

"Andy Carroll's first goal was from a very good cross but we lost him for the second goal, which you cannot do against any team, that is the sort of chance he waits for. The third goal was very poor defending from us."

The defeat leaves Swansea in eighth place in the Premier League table, five points behind the Hammers.
