Garry Monk: 'Brentford-linked Pep Clotet going nowhere'

Brentford's reported top managerial target Pep Clotet will not be leaving his role as part of Swansea City's backroom staff, according to boss Garry Monk.

Swansea City manager Garry Monk has claimed that reports linking Pep Clotet with the Brentford job are wide of the mark.

The Spaniard was thought to be among the leading contenders to take over at Griffin Park following his impressive work as part of the Swans' backroom staff.

Get West London recently suggested that the 38-year-old could even be in place by the end of the weekend, as the Bees look to bring in a permanent manager to replace temporary boss Lee Carsley.

Monk admits that he can understand just why Clotet has been linked with a move away, but is adamant that his right-hand man is going nowhere.

"I am not surprised at the speculation as Pep is a great coach - but it's a non-starter," he is quoted as saying by The Sun. "We have discussed things and he is as determined as me to make sure we come through this [difficult spell]."

Carsley has steadied the ship at Brentford since being appointed two months ago, helping the West London outfit to climb back into the top half of the Championship en route to claiming October's Manager of the Month accolade.
