Swansea City's Federico Fernandez has red card against Liverpool rescinded

Swansea City win their appeal against a red card issued to Federico Fernandez against Liverpool in the Capital One Cup on Tuesday.

Swansea City have won their appeal to have Federico Fernandez's red card rescinded following their defeat to Liverpool in the Capital One Cup.

The 25-year-old was controversially sent off by referee Keith Stroud following a challenge on Liverpool's Philippe Coutinho in the dying minutes of the Reds' late 2-1 win over the Swans in the fourth round of the competition on Tuesday at Anfield.

The defender was facing a three-match ban, but following the Welsh side's successful appeal, Fernandez will be free to play in Saturday's trip to Everton at Goodison Park.

A statement on Swansea's official website read: "The club appealed against the decision with a written statement and video evidence before an FA appeals panel overturned the red card this afternoon."

Swansea are currently sixth in the Premier League table.
