Preview: Tranmere Rovers vs. Swansea City

Sports Mole previews the FA Cup third-round match between League Two's Tranmere Rovers and Premier League side Swansea City.

League Two strugglers Tranmere Rovers will be hoping to cause an FA Cup upset when they host Premier League opposition in the form of Swansea City in the third round of the FA Cup on Saturday.

Micky Adams's side have won just five times in the league since being relegated to the fourth tier at the end of the 2013-14 season, leaving them just above the relegation zone.

However, Tranmere head into this match in their best form so far this season, having won three of their last five outings in the league, as well as knocking Oxford United and Bristol Rovers out of the Cup already.

They needed a replay to get past Oxford though, beating them 2-1 in a replay at Prenton Park after drawing away from home in the initial tie.

On-loan defender Will Aimson is the side's only injury absentee, as the Hull City youngster is currently recovering from surgery on a broken tibia.

Meanwhile, Garry Monk is likely to use some of his fringe players as Swansea will be playing their third match in six days.

As well as Monday's 4-1 loss to Liverpool, the Welsh side will face Queens Park Rangers on New Year's Day before travelling to Tranmere on Saturday.

The Premier League side will be without Jefferson Montero as he is sidelined with a hamstring injury, while Jonjo Shelvey's availability is uncertain after he appeared to elbow Emre Can at Anfield, leading to calls for him to be charged retrospectively by the FA.

Bafetimbi Gomis has struggled for regular action in the league since joining in the summer, but could earn a place in the starting lineup as he impressed after coming off the bench against Liverpool.

Swansea head into this match in mixed form, having won three and lost three in their last six outings.

This will be the first match between these two sides since 2008, with the teams finishing level at 1-1 on that occasion.
