Sunderland launch move for Walters?

Burnley forward Jonathan Walters has reportedly emerged as a transfer target for Sunderland.

The Clarets signed the experienced frontman on a free transfer from Stoke City during the summer, but injury has restricted the 34-year-old to just three substitute appearances in the Premier League.

Earlier this week, Burnley announced a loan deal for Tottenham Hotspur winger Georges-Kevin N'Koudou and that could potentially lead to Walters falling down the pecking order at Turf Moor.

According to The Sun, Sunderland boss Chris Coleman is now looking to add the Republic of Ireland international to his squad at the Stadium of Light.

While Walters would likely wish to remain in the top flight, Coleman wants the player on loan to help the Black Cats move away from the relegation zone in the Championship.

Walters has not featured in the second tier since his spell at Ipswich Town between 2007 and 2010.
