Sunderland are thought to have agreed on a transfer for Chunnam Dragons' Ji Dong-Won.
The 20-year-old has also been sought by PSV Eindhoven and Schalke 04, but the president of the K-League club has said that Ji will be heading to the Stadium of Light.
“I received the final proposal from the English team on Monday, with a transfer fee satisfying enough for us to release Ji,” said Yoon Jong-Ho.
The Black Cats are reported to have bid around £2.5m for the South Korean player, who scored four goals at the 2011 Asian Cup.
The striker is expected to receive a three-year contract following a medical later this month.
