Report: Steven Pienaar training with Sunderland

Steven Pienaar is reportedly training with Sunderland following his release from Everton at the end of last season.

The former Toffees midfielder, who also has Premier League experience with Tottenham Hotspur, is still on the lookout for a new team.

David Moyes managed Pienaar during his 11-year stint in charge of Everton, and could now throw the South Africa international a top-flight lifeline should he impress.

Sky Sports News reports that the 34-year-old is part of Sunderland's current group of players for pre-season, with the Black Cats yet to get off the mark in terms of incoming transfer business.

Pienaar made six appearances for Everton in all competitions last season, four of which came in the Premier League.
