Oviedo keen to remain at Sunderland

Defender Bryan Oviedo has suggested that he does not want to leave Sunderland in January in a bid to increase his playing time before the World Cup.

With Sunderland sitting at the bottom of the Championship standings, clubs could potentially try to exploit the situation by attempting to sign the left-sided Costa Rica international.

However, Oviedo has insisted that he has no plans to leave the Stadium of Light before the end of the campaign, claiming that any switch could hinder his chances of featuring at the World Cup.

The 27-year-old told La Nacion: "It's very complex because I have to make a very good decision. This is not just thinking about my team, since I have been playing and I have rhythm and that will be very useful for the World Cup.

"Changing teams in January can be difficult because if I change squad and I'm not a starter that could affect me in the national team and we all know how important the World Cup can be. I'm fine here in Sunderland."

Oviedo has made a total of 12 appearances in all competitions this season.
