Sunderland have reportedly made an approach to sign former Everton forward Dominic Calvert-Lewin.
Since securing promotion to the Premier League, the Black Cats have been proactive in the transfer market and appear in line to sign Chelsea starlet Marc Guiu on a season-long loan deal.
However, as per talkSPORT, Sunderland are willing to hand Calvert-Lewin the opportunity to remain in England's top flight.
The former England international is available as a free agent after his nine-year stint at Goodison Park came to an end.
Although he netted just three times in 26 top-flight appearances during 2024-25, Calvert-Lewin remains an attractive option on the market due to his homegrown status.
As such, the player allegedly prefers to keep his options open in the short term in an effort to secure a move to an established Premier League club.
Calvert-Lewin has been linked with a number of teams from that division, albeit the possibility remaining that he would not become first choice. His best chance of achieving such status may be with Sunderland.
Newcastle want Germany international
Meanwhile, Newcastle United are reportedly ready to hold discussions with AC Milan regarding a potential deal for Malick Thiaw.
The Magpies have endured frustration in the summer transfer window having only added Anthony Elanga to the first-team squad and facing a battle to fend off interest in Alexander Isak.
However, Eddie Howe is also in need of at least one new centre-back ahead of the club returning to the Champions League in September.
According to transfer expert Fabrizio Romano, Newcastle will make contact with Milan over the availability of Thiaw over the coming days.
In three years at San Siro, the Germany international has made 85 appearances, and new boss Massimiliano Allegri is seemingly keen to retain the 23-year-old in his squad.
Newcastle are said to want to hold talks with Milan over a potential fee for a player who has two years remaining on his contract.
Forest interested in former Brentford youngster
Nottingham Forest allegedly hold an interest in signing Red Bull Salzburg midfielder Mads Bidstrup.
The 24-year-old is no stranger to English football having made 14 appearances for Brentford during the 2020-21 and 2021-22 campaigns.
However, he has taken his career to new heights at Salzburg, making 81 outings since the start of 2023-24 and becoming their captain.
As per Sky Sport Deutschland reporter Florian Plettenberg, who was commenting on X, Forest have added the former Denmark Under-21 international to their shortlist of potential midfield additions.
Despite links with Juventus midfielder Douglas Luiz, Plettenberg claims that Bidstrup has emerged as Forest's top target.
Nuno Espirito Santo requires at least one signing for the engine room courtesy of Danilo having left for Botafogo last month.
