Injured Elliot Embleton returns to Sunderland from Derby loan

"Elliot Embleton's season-long loan deal with Derby County has been brought to an early conclusion," read a statement from the club.

"The 24-year-old joined Derby for the campaign from Sky Bet Championship side Sunderland back in September.

"The midfielder made just two appearances before suffering a thigh injury which required surgery and resulted in a quick return to his parent club for his rehabilitation.

"With the January Transfer Window now open, Embleton has formally returned to the Black Cats.

"Derby County would like to wish Elliot well in his future career."
