Paulo Di Canio says that the mentality of the Sunderland players and staff has to change.

Sunderland manager Paulo Di Canio has said that the "environment" has to change from the backroom staff to the players if the club is to survive in the Premier League.

The Black Cats' chances were improved on Tuesday night when 18th-placed side Wigan Athletic lost to Swansea City, but Di Canio said that he does not want Sunderland to rely on other clubs' failures.

"I was angry [that everyone was celebrating Wigan's defeat] because I don't like what is going on in this environment," Sky Sports News quotes Di Canio as saying.

"I don't enjoy it and I will make sure in the future everybody has to change their mentality; the players and the technical staff, the physios, the fitness coach, the refectory where they go for food, the directors.

"Everybody has to change mentality because if we are going always to delegate to others to do the job for us, we are going to remain an average team despite the fantastic potential the club has."
