Sunderland manager Martin O'Neill has praised striker Steven Fletcher after his two goals earned the club a 2-2 draw against Swansea City.
Fletcher joined Sunderland from Wolverhampton Wanderers for £12m over the summer and O'Neill was delighted that his new forward stole the headlines for his first-half double.
O'Neill told The Shields Gazette: "I'm pleased for him to get off the mark, because maybe with the euphoria surrounding Adam Johnson signing for us, his joining was cast in the shadows a bit.
"He is a very good player and I am hoping he is going to be excellent for us."
The draw at Swansea has left Sunderland in 13th place in the Premier League table.
