FA charge Phil Bardsley with violent conduct

Sunderland defender Phil Bardsley has been charged with violent conduct by the Football Association.

The charge relates to an incident during the Black Cats' 2-1 home loss to Chelsea on Saturday, where Bardsley clashed with Blues midfielder Juan Mata.

The 26-year-old, who has made 113 appearances for Sunderland after joining the club in January 2008, has until 6pm tomorrow to respond to the charge.
