Sunderland's Lee Cattermole: 'We have to build on Newcastle United win'

Cattermole: 'We have to build on Newcastle win'

Sunderland midfielder Lee Cattermole has insisted that his side have to back up their effort from the Wear-Tyne derby in their Premier League clash against Everton.

The Black Cats recorded their first win of the top-flight campaign against bitter rivals Newcastle United last week, their sixth victory on the spin against the Magpies.

However, Sunderland have lost four of their matches following a derby victory, which Cattermole is adamant has to change in their match at Goodison Park.

He told the club's official website: "We now have to follow it up with another good performance and build on it at Goodison Park. In the past four seasons we have won derbies but then lost our next game which isn't good enough, so between us we need to keep our emotions in check, work hard and strive to improve.

"Everton are a top side and we've done well to win there in the last two years. In both games they have dominated the ball but you would expect that from a Roberto Martinez side, so our discipline has to be spot on and we have to be organised throughout all areas of the pitch.

"We have the belief that we can hurt teams when we're in possession and we've proved that scoring goals isn't a problem. Despite last weekend's result we have only won one game in our first ten, so there is work to do but we realise that and hopefully we can put another three points on the board this weekend."

Sunderland are 19th in the Premier League ahead of their clash against Everton.
