Dick Advocaat has insisted that he has "no regrets" in becoming Sunderland manager on a permanent basis, but says that he will move aside if a better candidate emerges for the role.
The Black Cats have made a poor start to the season, having collected just two points from a possible 18 on offer.
With his side rooted to the foot of the Premier League table, Advocaat has rejected suggestions that he has questioned taking up the position on a permanent basis.
"No. There are no regrets," he told reporters. "But let's be clear - if I feel that it is better for somebody else to take over then I will go. Believe me."
Sunderland turn attention to League Cup duties on Tuesday night when they take on Manchester City.
