New Stoke City boss Mark Hughes says that he will buy new players this summer, as long as they are available at an affordable price.

New Stoke City manager Mark Hughes has revealed that he will dip into this summer's transfer window, if the right players become available.

The former Queens Park Rangers boss was appointed as Tony Pulis's successor today on a three-year contract.

"Obviously I will talk to the key elements in terms of recruitment staff and get an indication of what their thinking was prior to my appointment here and maybe I will agree with that or maybe take a different view," Hughes told Sky Sports News.

"And possibly opportunities will present themselves that we are not aware of at the moment and when they do you've got to be in a position to act quickly and make the best of those opportunities if they present themselves.

"So if players do become available and we are in the market and we can afford to buy someone who will markedly improve us I am certain we will look to do that."

Meanwhile, Potters chairman Peter Coates has insisted that Hughes will have sole charge of which players will come in and go out of the club.
