Stoke City boss Mark Hughes relieved after shootout win over Luton Town

Stoke City boss Mark Hughes admits that he is relieved his side managed to edge past Luton Town in the Capital One Cup.

Stoke City manager Mark Hughes has expressed his relief following his side's penalty-shootout victory over Luton Town in the Capital One Cup.

The Potters progressed to round three after ousting their League Two opponents 8-7 on penalties following a 1-1 draw at Kenilworth Road.

"I think the the obvious feeling is relief. We had opportunities to win the game, we were 1-0 up with 90 minutes gone, about 40 seconds left and we allowed them the one chance that they needed," PA quotes Hughes as saying.

"They deserve credit because they kept going and were competitive. They had one chance and put it away, you're thinking at 1-1 we're making hard work of this.

"But thankfully we came through extra time without ever really, on the night, creating enough chances for the play that we had."

Geoff Cameron fired home the deciding penalty after Scott Griffiths's kick struck the crossbar.
